Angry Young Singletons

When I was but a wee child on vacation with my parents in Empire, Wisconsin, I came across a book which I wished to purchase. The name of this book was "Angry Young Sniglets." Sniglets, as everybody else at the time knew, are words created to describe something for which there is no word, and are probably third on my list of artificial or non-natural word types behind portmanteaus and mondegreens.

However I read this at first (and for a while after the book's inevitable purchase) as "Angry Young Singlets." This anecdote has no purpose other than than to unpack the bulletin's title and give you a little bit of theoretical background into the machinations of my brain at large.

APAC last night was pretty bangin'. New Zealand/Australia in particular was holding it down. Also managed to score an oud on the cheap (actually free) from this pretty significant hippie out front of Starbucks. Still trying to figure out how many courses I have and so forth. Also broman hooked it up with some plain-old guitar strings so I might have to consult my village luthier.

Again, I'm playing tonight if you are in New York. I've got a good feeling about bad feelings!

Didn't Make It

So just as last year went, so this year will have to be as well besides.

Except last year I only had November, and I had to create 4 albums. Now I have November and December, and I only have to create 3.

But, I don't really have any cheats so the material will all have to be new. I have faith that I can do it. But it might be somewhat difficult.

I'm not going to be opposed to instrumental music this time around I don't think, but the first one at least should be very wordiferous, nahmean?

I'm listening to Boxcutter. As much as I love Venetian Snares, I never really gave much thought to any of the other stuff on Planet Mu, but it's really great.

Beyond that I'm playing tomorrow night at Union Hall. Before that I have to do a presentation for APAC tonight at 8 pm. So I'm not feeling that so much. But business must be done in the name of business.

Brokord

This weekend, I'm going to start diving into the recording of Blue. It's only 10 songs, and it should be complete by Thanksgiving I hope. Any suggestions?

New Feature

Hey I come up with all kinds of really mind-bendingly awesome business ideas every day (it's just part of being me), but I could never hope to properly monetize all of them.

That's why I decided to share them with you in a new feature I call "You Can Have It!"

YOU CAN HAVE IT 101
"Dating Site"

The elevator pitch: http://www.pairybonds.com

The Hambletonianian

Via CNN:

"I think the past couple of years have been one of those really hard-core evolutionary chapters for me," Vanessa Carlton says.

Me too man. The kind of hard-core evolution that comes from not being famous anymore is one of the sweetest, hardest-core personal improvements a young woman can make.

Distributabuilder

I think I'm finally coming back down to Earth after a couple of weeks of tyranny and despotism in the name of Gates of Heaven, PowerPoint, and all else that is holy and/or hallowed.

"Sea Hell" is back from the mastering man, to be released on Culture Heart in the very near future.

I finished up writing "Come Through" yesterday, I think. I'm not sure if it's going to be like 7 minutes long if I produce it the way I'm thinking. It might could be.

One of the other song titles is getting kicked off the album in favor of "Shades of Gerry," a tribute to a human female rendered inconsolable by the death of Jerry Garcia but sadly incapable of basic spelling and reason.

Jane's Addiction / Poorfredwilson.com

I wanted to start a fake music blog ostensibly written by a parallel-universe version of Fred Wilson--basically the conceit is he got too obsessed with art-rock and thus chose bad companies to invest in because he wasn't 'bout his business, unlike the real Fred Wilson, who is, and thus obviously not poor. But who definitely likes to rock.

Just too much to even wrap my brain around. You win this round, GoDaddy.

I chose the stupid option this weekend and split from work Friday and proceeded to see like 800 bands, most of which were actually good. I was actually kind of astonished at how little time I wasted watching shitty music.

I could recount the various facets but it would make me sound like scum, which is accurate. Let's just say it included a totally earnest discussion about how fucking sad it is that Genesis P-Orridge's wife died.

The first song on Blue is called "COME THROUGH." I think I'm going to be trying to write it now. I might have a peek at the Rich Media Backlog first.

Parvinder + GSmixes

Chums. Effective immediately GSmixes will be distributable as printable inserts with song titles and digital downloads from http://www.smongs.com.

Each order will get its own .zip file that will eventually disappear. I can always reupload.

Orders that have happened already will still get the full deal.

Also CMYK boxes will be changing. Effective immediately all discs will simply be colored the color of the album, no printing.

The reason for all this? LightScribe printing is ugly and takes a long time. There you go. Now orders will be faster and sweeter.

Also I think there will be another box set for the end of the year.

Most likely 3 albums, a natural progression from CMYK. Stay tuned...

To Get Them Back Without Me

Hola, friends. I'm just taking a break from my court-ordered 24-hour loop of "Hit Em Up Style (Oops!)" by Blu Cantrell to tell you that I REALLY HATE THIS SONG and also I'm playing at Mo Pitkins in NYC tonight.

I haven't played any of these songs for like 2 months so I expect to forget words and chords. Come and watch me do so; that way, we can spread the embarassment like peanut butter on an open wound.

Gevin & Lolorado

Gates of Heaven weekend was thultimate. We got most of it on tape. It was a lot of dragging around a heavy bag to play weirdo aleatoric pop. So about what I expected. More shows to come, along with some YouTubes.

I'm in Colorado now... drinking some cherry lemonade. T - 50 till my In-Stream presentation. It is going to be so killer.

Also my room has a hot tub in it. Feel free to stop by if you're longing a). dessication b). partytimes. It's at the Radisson that looks like a castle. You know the one.

Modern Fonts

What is up with rollingstone.com anyways? Was that interface designed in 1999?

True story, the first time I heard about the Shins it was because RS.com compared them to Kleenex Girl Wonder. So I guess all is forgiven.

Why Things Are As They Are

From the TVGuide forum, concerning SNL's digital shorts:

Personally, I can't wait until "D!ck in a Box 2007". My fingers are crossed that there will be another one that is similar and just as hilarious this year.

No Lies

Sometimes I like to check the wiki of a band after I see them. This is good practice, regardez:

Deakin (Josh Dibb): He used to send long letters to Avey Tare in a style evocative of romance literature of the 19th century and signed one Conrad Deacon.

Um, fair enough.

Also of note, from the brooklynvegan comments:

also, phish have some crunchy grooves. no lies.

Not Only Wet, But Also Wild

WTF? I was looking for a rough idea of start time (didn't get it) and I stumbled across this. Way to diversify those revenue streams!

Fun and Sexy DVD Video by Webster Hall

Belvedero, Belvederare, Belvederavi, Belvederatum v., to Belvedere

I am home from work today, primarily because I'm tired and I hurt my finger on the staircase banister.

Probably going to the Vampire Weekend/Animal Collective show tonight, if I don't massively wimp out. Shows by oneself are not 2 B denied.

DP's were great on Friday night. Longstreth is a strange guy but fascinating to watch. He plays too much good shit though to digest at once.

Spent the weekend in NJ maxin' and recordin'. Got some good shit done, feel better about the Gates live shows, good news all around.
